Following the NHTSA's five-star rating in every subcategory, Euro NCAP tests also confirm that the Tesla Model S is still pretty much the safest car money can buy.

That's excellent news for everybody, especially for Elon Musk and the great people of Norway.

Euro NCAP crash tests are different to NHTSA's in that active safety features are required for a five-star rating. Like Tesla's Autopilot function that sense up to 16 feet around the car using 12 ultrasonic sensors, a forward-looking camera, a forward radar, and a digitally controlled electric brake boost.

Safety upgrades coming with the next bigger software update for the Model S include forward and side collision warning and avoidance, blind spot warning, and automatic emergency braking.
