The Aston Martin reinvention has trickled down to the sporty, entry level car, the Aston Martin Vantage. After the initial shock of its redesign, people are finally driving it, and the results are very good.
The new Vantage is so good, the latest video from Motor1 UK says it might even be worth buying over the competitive Porsche 911.
Let’s confront the awkward aspect of the new Vantage up front, which is that it gets its 500 HP V8 from Mercedes, as well as the German brand’s not-great infotainment system.
The good news is that the V8 is good. What’s also good is that the car gets a claimed 26.8 MPG, not that you should be that worried about it too much.
Other interesting touches are the physical buttons on the interior, knee pads for both the driver and the passenger for those sticky turns, and exterior styling inspired by the James Bond DB10 car from Spectre and the grille from the DP100 concept.
Motor1 UK‘s Alex Goy claims the new Vantage is communicative, with good steering feel and exciting drive that’s somewhat let down by an exhaust note that lacks some of the character of Astons of old. He places the V8 Vantage somewhere between the current Porsche 911 GTS and Turbo, with the important asterisk that manual and V12 Vantage models will be coming down the pipeline soon enough.
