Auto journalists, like The Smoking Tire's Matt Farah, are tasked with evaluating cars both new and old, putting them through their paces, and seeing if they live up to manufacturers' hype. If you have an armored Mercedes-Benz, and if you're brave enough, that means getting shot at while you sit inside.
That's exactly what Matt did after buying a 1993 Mercedes S600 "Guard Edition" on Craigslist for $2,500. Not a bad deal at all for a car with a V12.
But what if Matt gets named ambassador to Kyrgyzstan or something, and has to take the S-Class to some dangerous place? How does he really know it will protect him?
By taking some gunfire from a friend while sitting in it, that's how. If this seems like an absurdly, ridiculously bad idea, that's because it is, and Matt asked us to emphasize how dangerous this is:
WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO SEE IS VERY STUPID AND WAS DONE UNDER CONTROLLED CIRCUMSTANCES. NO MATTER WHAT, DO NOT DO THIS AT HOME, EVER. THE ODDS OF YOU DYING WHILE ATTEMPTING THIS STUNT ARE ASTRONOMICALLY HIGH.
I think I'd have to be astronomically high before I could be convinced to try this myself. You're a brave son of a bitch, Farah. Glad you came out in one piece.
