It’s no secret that we love the new Honda Civic Type R around these parts, but the current Civic sure has grown big. What we need is a return to basics, with go-fast bits on a small, chuckable car. We need the Small RS Concept.
The Small RS Concept was a project of Honda’s Asia Pacific division, where small cars are the norm. In fact, they’ve already introduced sportier RS trims of the Jazz (the car known as the Fit here), Mobilio and Brio cars in Indonesia already.
But I’m especially enamored with this Small RS Concept, which is meant to show what Honda believes a hot hatch should look like. It ticks all the right boxes, with a hood scoop, big wing, bright orange paint and other aggressive design cues. It’s so small, but so angry! It’s just like a miniature Civic Type R, except everything is simplified a bit to work on a smaller car. That’s the best.
Honda brought the Small RS Concept to the Indonesia International Motor Show this year, but they really should’ve brought it to a good gravel road somewhere. It totally looks like a little baby rally car, given that the World Rally Championship is all hot hatches nowadays. Honda should build it, enter the WRC, and let us all buy them with which to do dirt donuts.
