A twin-turbo version of Audi's potent 4.2 liter V8 is at the heart of the Gumpert Apollo's awesomeness. No, that's not the street name of some geek superhero, it's a a mid-engined, rear-drive sports car — the creation of two maestros of speed: an ex-Audi motorsports chief and the owner of German tuner, MTM, has a race-bred carbonfiber monocoque chassis and six-speed sequential gearbox, making it more a worthy competitor to the Porsche GT3s of the world than a weekend cruiser of country lanes. The 223 mph Apollo will go on sale later this year, likely for a couple-hundred grand.
