I must apologize for heretofore neglecting Chip Foose and Foose Design, one of the most important hot rod visionaries working today. (Hail, hail reader mail.) The Boattail Speedster, a design he created for specialty auto builder Deco Rides, is but one example of Foose s nuanced design sense. Based on the Auburn Speedster of the 1920s and 1930s, the updated Boattail is a masterwork, encompassing art deco tropes and traditional hot rod counter-tropes, the confluence of which forms an entirely fresh custom-car vocabulary that is at once familiar and alien. Ha Ha. I really had you guys going, didn't I? Actually, what I meant to say was that it's cooler than hell.
