The First 2JZ-Swapped 2020 Toyota Supra Absolutely Mobs

It was only a matter of time before someone got their hands on a new 2020 Toyota Supra and proceeded to drop the OG 2JZ engine into it. That someone is drifting champ Daigo Saito and, surprise surprise, the car mobs.

Yes, this new video is essentially a Monster Energy commercial, but it’s of a sweet drift car, so I’ll let it slide (heh). Presumably, it was shot before the car was, uh, struck down by the car gods while running last weekend. There was some fire, some panic. It didn’t look good.

Sad.

Well! At least it was great while it lasted. Monster Energy’s video, uploaded on Tuesday, shows a quick montage of the build, a dyno run and some awesome sideways action.

The engine, according to the video, is a custom-built 2JZ that’s been bumped up to 3.4 liters and uses a HKS GT III 4R turbocharger. We’ve previously reported that it probably makes about 800 horsepower. A healthy amount of power from a 2JZ.

It’s not clear exactly what went wrong with the car last weekend, but here’s to hoping that its team figured out the issue and fixed it. The drift Supra is too good to be sitting out for long.
