Honda promises the new Civic Type R will be the best performance hot hatch when it hits the showrooms, but I would also like them keep everything just like it is on the concept. Wild.
Everybody is building hot hatchbacks these days. From VW, you can get a Spanish Golf with 280 hp attacking only the front wheels, on the French side, Peugeot just put a Torsen limited-slip differential into the 208 GTI to end Renault's reign on the tracks while in Japan, Nissan is busy Nismoing everything. And the list goes on and on, with really fast Fords, small AMGs and Minis spinning turbos and wheels happily while acting as daily drivers.
However, the knowledge behind Honda's red badge might just turn this ō-yoroi wearing Civic into something special. Honda could certainly use a new icon.
