Yes, the Cadillac Mirage is basically a Deville coupe converted into a pickup truck. With a golf bag door, because seventies custom.
Cadillac only commissioned 216 of these all-steel 4,500 pound luxury farmers’ cruisers, and I’ve never seen them before. PatBateman certainly knew about them, but I must thank Mike Musto for this amazing discovery. What a car!
The Deville’s Fisher body got cut up by Gene Winfield, you know, the legend who gave us all the Blade Runner vehicles and the Pontiac-based 6000 SUX in Robocop!
While their giant 8.2 liter V8 only produced about 200 horsepower, 400 ft lb of torque made sure you could get out there in case the whole witness protection deal didn’t work out that well with the feds.
I have a feeling most of these cars are still in Texas somewhere. They have to be.
Update: Mirage expert Trace Butkovich got in touch, and had this to add:
According to Gene Winfield, they only made about 60 Mirages per year over the two year production run and only a handful had the side golf bag door, The rest of the vehicles in the production run were wagons.
Somebody, tell Mike!
