The Buick Lacrosse: Beauty or Beast?

Why is it the most innocuous looking cars are the ones that make reviewers draw their six guns and open fire like rival prospectors on "Deadwood"? Who would have thought the Buick Lacrosse, literally Buick Jerk-off in Canadian slang, would have inspired such passion in the states.

The Buick Lacrosse is only the latest model to find itself straddling opposing points of view, like a Miniature automotive Sweden. Is it classically well proportioned, as Bob Elton from The Truth About Cars argues? Or does Dan Neil, of the Los Angeles Times, who thinks the Lacrosse fails to capture a single whiff of the 2000 Lacrosse concept's burning love, have the inside track? We're not even getting involved.
