For those who think that the standard Mulsanne's 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V8 needs way too many revs to get going, Bentley launched the Speed version with 530 hp and 811 lb ft of torque, turning it into a 190 mph super saloon. A turbodiesel Sierra 2500 HD only has 765 lb-ft.
Thanks to the added muscle, the Mulsanne Speed goes to 62 mph in 4.9 seconds and keeps on until 190 mph, which is crazy fast for a car that weights 5,919 lbs. Yet, thanks to cylinder-deactivation, a recalibrated gearbox and a totally redesigned combustion system, it's also 13% more efficient, giving it an extra 50 miles of range if you can settle for driving a V4.
In 'S' mode, that 6.75 will stay above 2,000 rpm to keep the turbos spooled up while the suspension gets stiffer as well for improved body control. The driver can also adjust steering, chassis and engine tunes through the Custom setting menu.
For the looks to match the performance, Bentley applied a dark tint finish to the stainless steel matrix grilles, the headlights and the taillights, while the Speed also features Bentley's first ever directional style wheel. Watch out for that after you got a flat tire. The wheels are 21".
Twin rifled exhaust tailpipes and a bunch of polished stainless steel Speed badges round up the exterior package. Bentley also threw in four new colors for good measure, the black/green golden metallic Spectre, the candy apple red Candy Red, the sandy-buttery Camel and the super deep blue/green Marlin.
Inside, it's all about carbon fiber and aluminum pedals with two-tone leather and the boldest stitchings you can imagine.
Adding a bit of tech to all that piano black is a 60 GB on-board hard drive for your music and films, power tables with iPads and matching keyboards, on-board Wi-Fi, a frosted glass bottle cooler with bespoke crystal champagne flutes. Rappers will also appreciate the 2,200 watt Naim audio system that comes with 14-speakers as standard. A pair of 8" screens at the back are also available, with and Bluetooth headphones of course.
The "base" Mulsanne also gets upgraded for 2015 with 512 hp and 752 lb.ft in case 186 mph sounds fast enough for you.
