Audi has run everything from Daytona to the Nürburgring in the R8 LMS. Now, as the sun sets on Audi's only supercar, it's finally offering the closest thing you can get to a road-legal racecar with the 570 horsepower, 199 MPH R8 Competition.

A roadworthy variant of the 5.2-liter V10 is the Competition's jewel, mated to a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox and a sport exhaust with black-tipped pipes that match the gloss black wheels. It's basically the R8 LMX, sans laser headlights. Because the feds hate lasers.

The rear tires are sized 305 out back, and combined with a smattering of lightweight, matte carbon fiber bits – from the rear wing to the front splitter and spoiler, and side blades – Audi claims a 0-60 MPH time of 3.2 seconds before topping out at 199 MPH.

Inside is more matte composites on the center console and illuminated door sills, and like anything Audi offers at this price point, owners can option for any interior and exterior colors to meet their tastes – or lack thereof.

Along with the car, Audi is running a competition with Blipshift to design the perfect R8 inspired shirt, and the winner gets a track day with the car. Pretty awesome stuff.

The Competition makes its debut next month at the LA Auto Show with only 60 units due for delivery early next year.
