What happens when you take a 2015 Ford Mustang GT and add a supercharger, sticky Michelin tires, racing-grade wheels, a Borla exhaust, a carbon fiber hood and enough Shelby decals and badges to make a Fiat 500 Abarth look understated? You get 627 horsepower and the 2015 Shelby GT. The "GT" here stands for "GoT-damn," I think.
Shelby American skipped the Detroit Auto Show for a debut in Arizona this weekend at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. This monster Mustang is street legal in 50 states and will be ready for delivery in the second quarter of this year.
At last, the looks of the 2015 Mustang are growing on me. All it needed was some added insanity, like on this car and the Shelby GT350R. That one comes from Ford, and this one is a tuner special built from your Mustang GT donor car and hopped up on Shelby American parts until it's the car equivalent of going for a nice Sunday drive on bath salts.
Other enhancements include a performance handling kit and half shafts, upgraded 3.73 gearing, loads of functional carbon fiber, big brakes, and a fully adjustable suspension. And 627 horsepower! Did I mention that part? Good gravy.
The price of the base Shelby GT mod package, not including the donor Mustang GT, is $39,995. You can go up from there if you're feeling like you need 700 horsepower in your life. (And having recently sampled 700+ horsepower myself, I can tell you that you do.)
So what's the best 2015 Mustang variant now? I think this makes a strong case.
