Even until his last days, Carroll Shelby was known for his love of supercharging things, especially Mustangs.
Ford's 2013 Shelby GT500 is the most powerful Mustang to ever come out of Michigan. But now, the guys at Shelby are introducing this: The 850-horsepower, widebody Shelby Super Snake. Mr. Shelby must be smiling in heaven right now.
For the first time in the history of the Super Snake, a special "widebody" version is available. Think of the GT500 concept that was shown at Pebble Beach and you'll have a good idea of what to get.
Under the hood, there are two different ways to get bit. You can get a 662 horsepower version, which, as far as we can tell, is the stock car with some "go faster bits" behind the scenes, or a psychopathic 850 horsepower version.
The optional widebody lets Shelby fit some truly massive tires. We're talking 14-inches wide. That's a lot of rubber going to the road and should help keep the car from careening wildly off the beaten path.
There will only be 500 cars converted to Super Snake status. The 662 horsepower package starts at $28,995, but the 850 horse option is only $11,000 more and will start at $39,995. Oh, plus the cost of a GT500. If you've come this far, just spend the extra $11,000 and get the power to go with it.
You don't want to be embarrassed at stoplights, do you?
