Several studies conducted in the US, Canada and Australia have found an increase in accidents and fatal rear-end collisions related to the use of "red light" traffic cameras. Although the cause of such accidents, or their relation to the cameras, is unclear, we'd bet the scenario goes something like this: At an intersection, two cars accelerate through a yellow light, when the driver of the lead car spots a pole-mounted camera he brakes hard, leaving the following car little time to change course, making a crash inevitable. We say a new public-service campaign is in order, something like "Take the Ticket, Save your Ass." We'll keep working on it.
