The Ford v. GM luxury crossover SUV war is is approximately T-minus one year from commencement, with epic battles for dominance expected to light up the skies over Detroit. GM's got something like nine of these in the works, and Ford is responding with a fusillade of its own, including this Mazda CX-9, a luxury replacement for the MPV minivan. The CX-9's an upscale companion to the coming CX-7 (and Ford Edge, Lincoln Aviator), reportedly riding on a stretched version of Ford's ubiquitous CD3 platform and powered by Ford's soon-to-be-ubiquitous new 3.5-liter V6. Unveiling is set for New York, 2006.
