Thank the speed gods for Subaru. As some brands leave their enthusiast bases in the dust, they're still out there with the BRZ and now an all-new 2015 Subaru WRX and a mostly-new WRX STI. Of the last two, which should you buy?

This isn't a new question by any means. For the past few years, the two have been close in performance but not price, giving you the choice between value and everyday hoonery in the WRX or top-of-the-line technology and power in the WRX STI.

These days the WRX gets an all-new 2.0-liter motor four with 268 horsepower, while the WRX STI keeps the outgoing car's older 2.5-liter engine with 305 horsepower. Around $8,000 sits between them.

The "normal" 'Rex has enough oomph satisfy nearly everyone and a ton of tuner potential. But the WRX STI is much more hardcore than you think it is thanks to wonderfully old-school hydraulic steering, a stiffer chassis and better rubber; it may be worth the extra cash.

In this episode of AFTER /DRIVE, Automobile's Jason Harper and an extremely sketchy character named Travis Okulski who claims to have driven both cars will discuss the difference between the two.
