Second Gear: Sandy Hurts Northeast Auto Sales

Reuters reports that GM and Ford both expect Hurricane Sandy will hurt auto sales in the Northeast, and that will probably be true for every other auto company, too. GM's transmissions plant in Maryland is expected to re-open today. It closed at noon on Monday, and was shut yesterday as well. Ford said there weren't any interruptions at its facilities in the storm's path, including its operations in the Buffalo area, where GM also operates. Auto companies are keeping an eye on whether power outages and damage from the storm cause any problems for their supplier networks.
