Akron, Ohio the place where BMWs go to die. Matthew Muller, 35, an Akron resident, got tired of his 1997 BMW. He blew the engine and proceeded to rent a backhoe (the Ultimate Digging Machine) which he used to bury his non-functional 1997 Bimmer in his father s backyard in October of 2002. He claimed the car as stolen and cashed the insurance company s nice fat check for $20 large.

The Tell-Tale BMW, however, would not go quiet into that long night. It called to Mr. Muller until he could no longer resist a year after the burial, Muller tried to exhume the German machine. Of course, by that point it had become lodged in the muck and could not be removed. The efforts to salvage the buried BMW attracted the attention of Johnny Law, and Muller was caught quite easily.

He was sentenced to a year in jail for insurance fraud and was ordered this week to reimburse the State Highway Patrol and Ohio Department of Transportation for the $15,500 the agencies spent to dig up the Bimmer.
