Porsche Builds New LeMans Prototype Car, Penske to Race

Porsche is creating a new factory race car, a LeMans prototype, that Penske Motorsports will race in 2005 and 2006. The car, which is still under wraps, is the first factory racer Porsche has created since the 911 GT1 in 1998. Penske will enter the prototype for testing in the last two races of this year's ALMS season in October: Road Atlanta and Laguna Seca. In 2006 the team plans to race two vehicles at all ten rounds of the series. Fans of the porsche 917 prototype remember that Roger Penske and his team won two CanAm Championships in 1972 and 1973.
