In 1971, the Nissan 240Z dominated the East African Safari Rally, powering its way across the harsh desert to a first and second place win. The original Z would pull off another win in 1973. Now, thanks to the efforts of some volunteers at Nissan, one of those cars will be restored to its former glory.

Nissan says that their Nissan Restoration Club, a 60-strong group of volunteer members from the company's R&D department, will use their skills to restore the Safari Rally Z that won in 1971 driven by Edgar Hermann and Hans Schuller. The car's 2.4-liter inline six was tuned to produce 215 horsepower for racing duty.

Nissan says that the restoration of the Safari Rally Z will be completed in December. Maybe your Jalopnik staff can convince them to let us review it.
