New Roadside Cameras Count Occupants

Scientists at Loughborough University have invented a camera capable of counting the number of occupants in a car; making it capable of enforcing vehicle occupancy lane restrictions. Dtect peers through the windshield with an infrared beam capable of reading the unique makeup of human skin and hair, making the system impossible to foil with a dog, a bunch of pillows or a blow-up doll riding shotgun. Motoring groups in the UK are skeptical of the system's potential usefulness, but it could catch on in the US where car sharing lanes are much more popular.
