Although most older Unimogs have spent a life working thanks to their utilitarian design and extreme off road capability, this 1980 406 is a rare example of a vintage 'Mog that has led the easy life.
This Unimog was purchased by a large Illinois Mercedes dealership for lot plowing duty 24 years ago and has a mere 1619 original miles. When it wasn't pushing snow or serving utility duty around the dealership it was sitting in a heated garage and being maintaining by Mercedes technicians.
According to the seller the truck also received a cosmetic restoration around 6 years ago to erase any signs of age the truck was showing. The Mercedes Diesel runs well, the truck shifts well through all eight forward gears and four reverse, and everything else works as it should.
The result appears to be about as close as you will ever get to buying a brand new 32 year old diesel 4x4 Unimog you can get. Perhaps best of all the price of this low mileage Unimog is quite reasonable—bidding has reached $14,275 with slightly less than a day left on the No Reserve auction.
There are no words to accurately describe how badly we would love to be the ones to take this old 'Mog on its first off road voyage in several decades.
