More on the Urge: Nissan's Concept for Videogame Junkies

Nissan's Urge concept, advance shots of which we posted yesterday, isn't just a toylike roadster, it's also a fully equipped simulation controller for the Xbox 360. According to a Nissan executive, the company surveyed 2000 "echo boomers," the genetic offspring of baby boomers born between 1982 and 1995, who say technology and gaming are among the most important attributes in their first car. (Considering our own first car's "technology" involved a snarl of errant wires hanging from under the dash, we can't really relate, and we're not that much older than them). The Urge is an unapologetic expression of those kids' attitudes, as envisioned by Nissan designers via Microsoft technologies. A driver can pull over, fire up the Xbox and play Project Gotham Racing) from a flip-down seven-inch screen using the car's own controls — a completely immersive driving experience that's even more like driving than actually driving. Kind of. We'll have more on the Urge from the Detroit show floor.
