Michael Schumacher's Medical Records Reportedly Stolen And Up For Sale

The world has been cheering for Michael Schumacher to wake from the coma he's been in since his December skiing accident, but that hasn't stopped some unscrupulous people from taking advantage of the situation. News reports say Schumacher's medical records have been stolen and put up for sale.

The UK's Daily Mail reports that Schumacher's manager confirmed the theft of Schumacher's medical documents, but it's not clear where they were stolen from. The manager, Sabine Kehm, said legal action will be taken if the documents are made public.

Kehm said she couldn't confirm that the records being offered for sale are the real, but did confirm that a theft did in fact take place. Here's her statement:

"For several days stolen documents and data are being offered for sale. The offeror claims them to be the medical file of Michael Schumacher. We cannot judge if these documents are authentic. However, the documents are clearly stolen. The theft has been reported. The authorities are involved.

"We expressly advise that both the purchase and the publication of such documents and data is forbidden. The contents of any medical files are totally private and confidential and must not made available to the public."

Emphasis mine. At the moment, we have no idea who stole the records or how they're trying to sell them off, but the police are investigating the case.

With everything Schumacher's family and friends have been through since his Dec. 29 skiing accident, it's unfathomable to think that someone would go to these lengths to profit from their tragedy. There are some real scumbags out there. Let's hope the law finds them soon.
