Europe's diesel boom continues unabated, with Mercedes launching a new, twin-turbo, common-rail diesel V8 engine, which will power the E420 CDI beginning later this year. Merc's new 4.0-liter stinkpot serves to narrow the performance gap between diesel and gas-powered engines, cranking out 314 hp (20% more than its predecessor) and enough torque to drag a bulldozer up the side of the Empire State Building, just for laughs (538 ft/lbs, a 30% increase).
