Melt Your Brain To The Sound Of The 2017 Camaro ZL1 On The Nürburgring

The Chevrolet Camaro ZL1's new 6.2-liter supercharged V8 doesn’t just sound good on paper. The latest footage of the ZL1 testing on the Nürburgring sounds unbelievably good even through the cheesiest phone speakers. (Plus, they kept it off a wall this time.) Find a good sound system and crank this engine note up to 11. It’s worth it.

Chevy did its best Red vs. Blue act with its two test cars duking it out for my attention. The quick, smooth gear changes of the red car sounds like it may have that new trick 10-speed automatic transmission. The rowdy noises emanating from the blue car sound, however, more like a foot blipping a downshift. We’re guessing the blue car probably has the six-speed.

Both do a wonderful job of making their tires squeal for mercy on the Karussell and filling the hills and valleys of Germany’s most infamous race track with the glorious sound of America, distilled to its purest, nuttiest, V8-iest essence.

The Camaro ZL1 is the car that best defines the Golden Age of Cars we’re currently living in. I’ll explain.

This car has the following:

- a 640-hp supercharged V8 and rear-wheel-drive

- 6-piston front and 4-piston rear Brembos

- a 10-speed automatic

- magnetorheological dampers

- 305-section rear tires

And also has the following:

- air conditioning

- a 3-year, 36,000-mile warranty

- airbags and emissions equipment

- Apple CarPlay and Android Auto

- a convertible option

- a Camaro badge

All of this should be completely impossible. And yet.
