McLaren To FIA: "Our Bad"
Just as we finished, or so we thought, with all the FIA spying madness, it all comes back up again. The McLaren team has finally made a full apology for stealing data from Ferrari (and then, maybe, letting derivative data sneak into the hands of Renault). In a letter to the FIA, Martin Whitmarsh, the head of the team, wrote "We apologize unreservedly if our prior ignorance of some of these facts has misled World Motor Sports Council and we can only assure you all that this was never our intention."
Of course, McLaren was heavily fined and kicked out of the constructors' championship. So the damage has been done there. Hopefully, everyone will tone down the stealing and focus on important things, like developing new engines... oh, wait. [Canadian Press]
