The McLaren MP4-12C remains the highest rated vehicle we've reviewed for one major reason: it was built with the driver in mind. This new Can-Am Edition racing "concept" seems to be built with the gentleman driver in mind. We like.

McLaren's bringing this new vehicle out to Pebble Beach, which we'll be covering this weekend, and we'll definitely touch those magnificent doors if we get a chance. As the name suggests, the car is a tribute to Can-Am — one of the greatest racing endeavors in history.

Specifically, the bright McLaren Orange is a nod to Bruce McLaren and Denny Hulme's success in racing in the '60s and '70s. This is offset by carbon fiber and satin black touches. It looks purposeful, if not a little Transformers-esque.

To make the vehicle the "ultimate track car" they've bumped power from the 3.8-liter V8 to 630 horsepower, making it the most powerful 12C derivative yet offered. These are things you can do when you don't have to meet any specific regulations (ahem 12C GT3).

Aero wise it looks awfully similar to the GT3 version and also gets race seats, a roll cage, a GT3 steering wheel, racing alloys, upgraded brakes, and everything you'd need for one helluva track day.

So, yes, this is a concept. But it's debuting at Pebble Beach, which means lots of rich folk with a line of credit deep enough to acquire a track-only version of their favorite supercar between nibbles of Pâté. This car will get built and someone will buy it.
