I know the whole Ford vs. Ferrari story has been done to death already, but if it’s James Mangold at the helm, then I might actually give this new movie a watch.
Yes, that’s the same James Mangold who directed Girl, Interrupted, 3:10 to Yuma and, most recently, Logan. The yet-untitled film seems like it will be told from the perspective of Team Ford, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
From the story:
The untitled movie will follow an eccentric team of American engineers and designers led by automotive visionary Carroll Shelby and his British driver, Ken Miles, who are dispatched by Henry Ford II with the mission of building from scratch an entirely new race car with the potential to finally defeat the perennially dominant Ferrari at the 1966 Le Mans World Championship.
We all know the story; how the story will be told is what will be interesting.
I especially enjoyed Mangold’s very noir-like style in Logan. And the cars were really characters of their own. After all, it was a road movie. Hopefully that same attention to detail to the vehicles will carry over.
More on this as we have it.
