There are several things to love about jetBlue, but their charitable donation in the wake of the murder of two New York City Police might be the most awesome thing they have ever done. The airline is offering two tickets to every law enforcement agency in the country with people wanting to attend the two funerals.
The two NYC Police officers, Wenjian Liu and Rafael Ramos were shot on and killed on Saturday while sitting in their patrol car in Brooklyn. JetBlue explained their act to NYC Fire Wire:
"We are trying our best to get as many police officers to New York to support their fellow brothers. We are accepting up to 2 officers from each department (space permitting)."
Based in New York, the airline is also giving free flights to the families of the slain officers. CBS News says jetBlue is also working with another airline to fly in Officer Liu's family from China. In a statement, a jetBlue spokeswoman said:
"We're honored to do what we can to support the communities we serve, and our team has made flights available to law enforcement agencies across our route network who wish to send representatives to New York to support their brethren."
Liu's funeral has not been scheduled. Officer Ramos' wake is set for Friday, and his funeral is set for this Saturday. Several thousand law enforcement officers are expected to attend the ceremonies. Vice President Joe Biden is also scheduled to attend Ramos' funeral on Saturday.
