Italian Engineering Versus Swedish Engineering

When Top Gear was lamenting the death of Saab, they did a whole bit about Swedish versus Italian crash tests back in the 1990s. Saab and Lancia don’t really exist nowadays (not in any meaningful way, anyway), but Volvo and Fiat still do. And it looks like the more things change, the more things stay the same.

Okay, so this isn’t an exact comparison. The Volvo is way bigger than the Fiat, and we don’t know the circumstances of the crash. But still! That poor little Fiat looks toast. The Volvo, not so much.

The Fiat rear-ended the Volvo, according to the video description as run through Google Translate. Both occupants of the Fiat survived, though just barely.

No word on the status of the occupants of the Volvo, but I think we can assume they’re okay.
