Yesterday, BMW Designworks' lead designer in color, materials and finish Sandy McGill told Motoramic that Apple is responsible for making white the most popular car color.

McGill believes that Apple is responsible for making people think the plainest color imaginable isn't actually very plain at all.

Prior to Apple, white was associated with things like refrigerators or the tiles in your bathroom. Apple made white valuable.

According to DuPont's annual report on car color, white ties silver for first in the global car color chart at 22%. White leads North America at 23% over black at 18%.

We're not convinced Apple is responsible. We'd blame that giant fusion reactor in the sky, the sun. It's hot, and people buy white cars so they don't burn up in parking lots.

With regards to performance cars, you can see a lot of influence from Japanese sports cars. They've gotten extremely popular over the past few decades and cars like the NSX-R and the Integra Type-R are probably why people are checking ‘Arctic White' on their M3's options list.

What do you think? Is Apple responsible for all those white cars filling up the world's parking lots? Are white cars cool?
