Retractable hardtops offer car owners the best aspects of a convertible (i.e., its convertibility) with the practicality of a hardtop. It's no loss to retract-o fans (we made that up) that with the top down, their car's trunk is rendered pretty much unavailable to anything larger than a dozen doughnuts — retract-o fans travel light. They also build extensive Web sites in honor of their preferred form of travel. For the rest of us, the cars make pretty stylish nutcrackers.
