The main difference between drifting in a videogame and doing so IRL — in real life, as the kids say — is in the guardrails, as one young Hoon learned the hard way. One lesson the driver did learn, thanks to one of his compadres, is that "when your dad comes, act like you were crying. That's what I do." We don't know if that tactic ever worked with Takumi's dad, but It sure as hell works with managing editors.
