Honda N600, Audi 200 Avant Quattro, FB Mondial Record: The Dopest Cars I Found For Sale Online
A handful of rare car and motorcycle finds, a beautiful truck and the holy grail of Honda crossovers.
Another week means another entry into our series featuring the sweet cars I found for sale online. This time we have a Volkswagen with a factory supercharger, a perfect teal pickup truck, a forgotten motorcycle and more.
To compile this list, I search as much of Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist as I can for interesting vehicles that don't cost a fortune. They may be hilariously unreliable, remarkably unusual, questionably tuned or just something that stops me in my tracks. Prices for some cars are trending higher, but I think some decent deals are still out there.
2006 Honda Element EX - $5,500
Let's start this off with the 'holy grail' of Honda crossovers. The Element was one of Honda's best ideas and I wish the company brought it back. The funky exterior and bright orange paint are only complemented with the versatile interior. I've seen people cram whole motorcycles into the back of Elements. And while you should not hose off the floors, having the rubber coating is nice when you wheel in something dirty.
This Element not only comes with all-wheel-drive, but a manual transmission. It's $5,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Madison Heights, Michigan with 158,000 miles.
1972 Fiat 500 - $10,600
The Fiat 500 was the little car that could. It got much of Europe mobile on its cheap and practical wheels. It's about as synonymous with Italy of decades past as an old Vespa. Today, the adorable things make for a neat classic.
This particular 500 appears to be a 500L, but it is missing the extra front bumper bar. The seller doesn't say much about it aside from saying that it's in amazing condition. It's $10,600 on Facebook Marketplace in Miami Beach, Florida.
1990 Audi 200 Avant Quattro - $4,000
Audi of the 1980s and 1990s was known for its all-wheel-drive system and the Audi Quattro racer that found itself all over motorsport, even Group B rallying.
Unfortunately, it was also known for the infamous 60 Minutes Out of Control coverage about unintended acceleration. Eventually it was discovered that 60 Minutes fabricated its demonstration, but the damage was done. Sales plummeted.
An Audi 200 like this one wasn't exactly a common car when it was new and it's certainly a rare sight today. And this isn't just any 200 as it's a wagon with a manual transmission and Quattro. Power comes from a 2.2-liter turbo five making 200 HP. This one looks to be in decent shape for $4,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Great Falls, Montana with 190,000 miles.
1967 FB Mondial Record - $10,000
FB Mondial was started in 1929 as FB in Italy by Boselli brothers Luigi, Carlo, Ettore and Ada. The brothers built three-wheeled delivery vehicles in its early days, reports MC News. Unfortunately, FB got tangled up in WWII with its machinery commandeered to support the war effort.
After the war, FB rebranded itself to FB Mondial and began building winning race bikes. The company's motorcycles were so good that they won a motorcycle world championship in only the second year of restarted production, the first of five championship wins.
The little Record features a 48cc single and stunning visuals. This particular example is said to be in "Concorso" condition. These are rare enough that you probably wouldn't want to daily ride it. It's $10,000 on Facebook Marketplace in Antelope, California.
1990 Volkswagen Corrado G60 - $5,800
The Corrado is a sleek spiritual successor to the Scirocco of the era. More than just a Golf GTI with a new body, this car was like a Porsche with a Volkswagen badge. This one is a bit different with its 1.8-liter supercharged four with a G-shaped supercharger putting down 158 HP. We've said that these are imperfect, but are the ones to get.
This one comes in Nugget Yellow with a manual transmission. It's $5,800 on Facebook Marketplace in Lakewood, Washington with 160,000 miles.
1994 Subaru SVX - $7,500
The Subaru SVX is a weird product of its day that we'll likely never see again. This is a car with a flat-six 230 HP boxer, all-wheel-drive and Giorgetto Guigiaro design wrapped up into a bright red Subaru.
This one is a low-mile survivor with all of 42,000 miles on the odometer. I'm actually surprised it's on Facebook Marketplace for $7,500 and not Bring a Trailer.
1972 Honda N600 - $4,500
This week's enthusiast car is fans of vintage North American market Japanese cars. The diminutive N600 has an air-cooled 598cc twin making 36 ponies and pushing a 1,100-pound body. Top speed was around 80 mph depending on the wind and how much you weigh.
As you'd expect, Americans weren't so hot about taking a kei car down our country's expansive highways, and Honda's auto success in this country had to wait until the Civic.
This one has some minor rust, but it otherwise looks to be in pretty good shape. It's $4,500 on Facebook Marketplace in Adrian, Michigan.
2016 Triumph Thruxton 900 - $7,200
The Triumph Thruxton takes its name from the track where Triumph took home the top three places in the Thruxton 500 motorcycle endurance race in 1969. These bikes pair classic café racer looks to sporty power.
This one has an 865cc twin making 69 HP and looks to be in pretty good shape. It's $7,200 on Facebook Marketplace in Patterson, California.
1972 Chevrolet C-10 - $8,000
What's cooler than an old truck? An old teal truck with a column-shifted three-speed manual said to be in all-original condition. The seller says that this truck was a Pennsylvania barn find, but however long it spent in the barn wasn't too bad for it. The body looks pretty good with only minor damage and the paint has what some would call patina. Engine is said to be a six cylinder, but it isn't said which.
Thankfully, it's not just something yanked out of a barn then put up for sale. The seller says that it has been gone through to make it roadworthy. It's $8,000 on Facebook Marketplace in White Hall, Maryland with 96,000 miles.
That's it for this week! Have you purchased a car from one of these posts? If so, I want to know.
If you know of a weird car for sale on Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist, drop it down in the comments or send it along in an email! If the car's still for sale, we may feature it in a future post.
