Russell Crowe has divorced his wife of over a decade. Sad! But, as he explained to an Australian television station on Thursday, he’s now trying to create “a bit of clear space.” How’s that? Well, he’s putting hundreds of things up for auction, including a 2001 Mercedes-Benz S500 that dates to his Gladiator days.
This whole business is a bit sad, since the Mercedes was also one of the cars Crowe and his then wife—who he’s been amicably separated from for five years—used on their wedding day. The auction, entitled The Art Of Divorce, takes place tomorrow in Sydney.
This S500 was one of the W220s—otherwise known as quite possibly the worst generation of the S Class ever. The W220s were unreliable, and also full of plastic. But! This one comes with a letter from Crowe certifying his ownership. It also has only 101,661 kilometers on the odometer, or 63,138 miles.
Under the hood is a 5.0-liter V8, which made 302 horsepower when it was new. The transmission is automatic; both the interior and exterior are black. How much is it estimated to go for? Up to 25,000 Australian dollars, or a little over $19,000 at current exchange rates.
Not sold? Maybe I can convince you to buy Crowe’s 1917 Precision 500cc motorcycle. Still looks good after 101 years. Estimated price is up to $23,000.
Crowe is also selling a lot—really, a scary amount—of watches, in addition to art and props and costumes from his movies over the years, in an auction that is expected to fetch millions in total. You can see all of the auction lots here.
