If you want a fun little camper that can go anywhere, then you’ve got a lot of good options right now. You could get a rugged Mercedes van filled with creature comforts, could fit a camper shell to your trusty truck or could opt for a Kei truck fitted with this awesome pod that transforms the tiny truck into a dreamy RV.

The pod is a collaboration between U.S. Kei truck specialist Oiwa Garage and Japanese truck customizer Grasshopper. It adds all kinds of innovative camping kit to the tiny trucks, including sleeping space, storage compartments and even a camp kitchen.

Officially called the K-02 Camper, the pod is one of four different toppers that Grasshopper makes for Kei trucks, including another that fits a whole work station to the rear of these tiny trucks. It’s a pretty nifty bit of kit that is said to blend “practicality with high-end luxury,” according to a release shared by Oiwa.

Inside the pod, it’s packed with all the essentials you’d need for any good camping trip. There’s space for two people to sleep in the body of the pod, which pops up to create even more room when you’re setting up camp for the night.

As well as the pop-up top, there’s also a pull-out compartment that reveals a complete camp kitchen. This gives your Kei truck a stainless steel setup that includes a three-burner propane stove and a sink with a functioning tap. Other drawers and compartments open out to reveal enough storage space for every one of your hopes and dreams.

It’s a pretty slick bit of kit, which was shown off with a full concept build from Oiwa Garage. As well as the addition of the camping pod, the Kei truck specialists gave this Honda-based build some race-inspired flourishes such as Prisma bucket seats and an NRG steering wheel.

The complete camper looks awesome, and like it would be right at home on any overlanding adventure that you could possibly dream up. Just imagine taking this and your best buds and heading for a long weekend in the wilderness where you could show up all manner of oversized off-road rigs with the practicalities and performance of this thing.

After all, we’ve already seen that Kei trucks can be pretty handy in the rough stuff and they can even handle themselves on a race track. These tiny trucks really are the perfect car for Americans… provided you can see past the lack of any real crash structure.
