A 1965 Aston Martin DB5 formerly owned by George Harrison sold for an impressive £350,000 ($549,045) at auction Wednesday. Although silver DB5s are perhaps best known for their appearance in early James Bond films "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball", this particular car is a celebrity on its own.

This DB5 was delivered to George Harrison brand new on January 1, 1965. After the Beatle sold the car it spent some time in a Tokyo museum and in the hands of a private collector before coming up for sale. Coys auction house, who sold the car as part of their "True Greats" sale in London, had initially estimated the car to sell for £225,000 - £260,000.

George Harrison's prior ownership history combined with the desirability of Aston Martin DB5's created a bidding war for the car which far exceeded the auction house's initial estimation. When the smoke cleared a Beatles fan from Houston, TX was the high bidder. According to MSN autos, the man who bought the DB5 plans to use the car to raise money for Christian charities.
