With GM's and Delphi's drain circling hogging the spotlight, Ford has gotten away with a $284 million quarterly loss (on a gain of $2 billion in revenue) without a lot of negative fanfare. Of course, the loss would have been more than a half-billion were it not for that Bridgestone settlement money. (Well played, Sir Ford.) Now, the company is talking about plant closings and 20,000 layoffs — many of which we suspect will be from normal attrition. Expect announcements in January.
