Yeah, we're a bit late with this story, which has been the b-roll to the Katrina disaster all day today. By now, you've probably heard Ford is officially recalling 3.8 million trucks in the midst of an ongoing NHTSA investigation into fires caused by cruise-control switches in freaking gajillions of the company's pickups (the fifth largest recall in history). Though it won't have the replacement parts ready until October, Ford is urging owners of 1994-2002 F-150 pickups to have their cruise control systems disconnected to avoid possible fires caused by a defective switch. Two deaths were reportedly linked to the switch fires, a four-year-old girl and a 74-year-old woman, along with several home fires. For owners of 2000 models, it's the second recall in a year.
