"There's nothing like driving to avoid jail." That timeless bit of wisdom from Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby proved to be true in real life this week after ex-NASCAR driver Tyler Walker was arrested after he led police on a high-speed chase through three states.
According to this report in USA Today, Walker, 33, faces a litany of drug and alcohol charges after police chased him through Nevada, Arizona and Utah.
Walker, who raced in the Nationwide and Camping World Truck series, was booted out of NASCAR in 2007 for violating their drug policy. In recent years, he has been active in racing Sprint Cars.
And those skills were certainly put to use earlier this week when he failed to stop for Nevada state troopers. The chase continued through Arizona and into Utah, until state troopers there deployed spike strips, which took out the tires on his 2007 BMW 750Li.
Walker got out of the car and attempted to flee on foot before he was taken down by police, according to news reports. When they searched his car, officers found meth, marijuana, drug paraphernalia and booze inside. Walker now faces a laundry list of charges, including possession, evading police and driving with an open container. His passenger, 30-year-old Raelie Hann McDonald, was also arrested.
Once considered one of NASCAR's rising stars until getting kicked out for substance abuse, Walker and his crew were also involved in a much-publicized fight with track security at the Williams Grove Speedway last year.
