Even In A Formula Two Car, Steve McQueen Is Cooler Than You

In fact, he’s cooler than the entire current Formula One field with their square haircuts, too-neat sideburns and carbon fiber cars which don’t kill them on impact.

This photo was taken in France on July 18, 1970, during filming for Le Mans. McQueen is sitting in a Formula 2 Brabham and the dude with the bowl haircut showing him the controls is none other than British racing driver Derek Bell, a stuntman in the movie.

After surviving a nasty accident in a Ferrari during filming, Bell went on to become one of the most successful endurance racers ever, with three victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona and an incredible five at Le Mans.

Most of those wins came in turbocharged Porsche prototypes like this 962, which Bell is driving to his fifth and last Le Mans victory in 1987.
