Dodge Charger Makes Daytona 500 Top Ten

Sure it shares next to no parts with the production Dodge Charger coming soon to a dealership near y'all, but the Nascar-tuned Chargers that came in eighth, ninth and tenth in yesterday's Daytona 500 had the word "Dodge" tattooed across their flanks, which is all that mattered to Chrysler group CEO, Dieter "the awkwardly pleasant European" Zetsche. That Dodge is using the return of the Charger name to Nascar racing — after decades in absence — to try and rekindle the "race on Sunday sell on Monday" tenet of yesteryear is no secret. But whether a high Nascar profile matters much to modern car buyers, the way it did to muscle-car buyers of the 1960s, remains a question that will only be answered when the Charger hits dealerships later this year. If we had to predict, we say it will. of course, first place would have been better.
