A car concept created by a 26-year-old student from the School of Design at the University of Montreal topped this year's World Automotive Design Competition, held jointly with the Toronto auto show. The winning concept, the Virtuoo , is of the hydrogen-fueled people-mover genre, all the rage among academically inclined auto designers these days. We think it's primetime for a reactionary backlash, in whcih design students reexamine the old Pininfarina designs of the 1950s for inspiration, or at least attempt a curve with more sex appeal than a pinup of the Hubble telescope.
