UPDATE! As if the Dan Wheldon story couldn't get any sadder, a Las Vegas newspaper columnist claims Wheldon and his wife Susie got matching tattoos the night before his fatal wreck at yesterday's Las Vegas Indy 300.

Review-Journal writer Norm Clarke wrote that Palms owner George Maloof said Wheldon greeted him with a bear hug on Saturday evening at the casino.

But later that night, Wheldon and his wife Susie apparently left the casino and stopped off at a local tattoo parlor for an emblem of their devotion to each other.

A tipster told Vegas Confidential that Wheldon and his wife had their initials — D.W. and S.W. — tattooed on their wrists about 10 p.m. at Huntington Ink at the Palms. A female employee at the tattoo shop declined comment, saying, "Sorry, I can't give out that information."
