The song "Roxanne, Roxanne" by U.T.F.O was a minor hit about a girl who wasn't interested them back in the mid-1980s, but its fame comes not from the catchy hook but from the response it provoked. After U.T.F.O. cancelled a show on them, a record producer and a disc jockey decided they'd get revenge by producing an album by an artist calling herself Roxanne Shanté. This was silly but not unprecedented. What changed was U.T.F.O. releasing a response-response record, which then spawned another response and eventually so many follow up records (some say hundreds) everyone eventually got so sick of it they were mostly banned on radio stations in the New York Area. Kanye West's feuds have been mostly limited to squaring off with 19-year-old girls, but his wrecked Porsche Panamera launched two competing versions of Heartless. We liked Optixtruf's version, but the hook wins it for Scandinavian Flick.
In the night, I hear them talk the coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road, he lost his Porsche
To a cousin so careless
How could you be so careless
Oh, how could you be so careless? How could you be so bad at drivin' when in Hawaii yo
Just remember that you drivin' for me yo
You need to watch the way you drivin' for me yo
I mean after all the tracks that we been to
I mean after all the tickets we got into
Ayo, I know there are some things that you ain't told me
Ayo, I did some things but got off on a warning
And now you gonna wreck my Porsche and you gonna show me
So you walk around cuz you don't drive for me
You got a new car, well I got a fleet
But in the end it's still no turbo
At least it wasn't a Gold Digger.
