Commenter Of The Day: On And Beneath The Waves Edition

"I've sentenced boys younger than you to the gas chamber. I didn't want to do it. I felt I owed it to them." Who can forget Judge Smails from Caddyshack, or Ted Knight's immortal performance? Some hear, "yachting cap" and immediately think of Jim Backus and Thurston Howell III. We think Smails. However, a certain recently deceased fashion designer who was once asked to do a job for Ford can also come to mind, as well as the cinematic commander of an undersea boat. That's what happened today among the Jalopnik commenters, prompted by our post on the Audi Q7 Coastline concept.

It's a tie!

We've had our fun with the Bill Blass Lincoln, and now so has co-COTD BZR offering up these thoughts on the Coastline's, um, destiny:

This will surely be the future equivalent of the Bill Blass edition Lincoln Continental, for future Jalops to revel in and blast future proto-punk music through their futuristic ghetto-rigged speakers from future sheets of plywood and Radio Shack wiring.

But we must also give tribute to ash78, who—after being nicely set up first by the lyrical POLAR and then by UDMan, possibly referencing a 1980s-vintage Joey Pants performance (see "Guido the Killer Pimp")—served up this beaut, and tipped the scales with the inclusion of the perfect Jürgen Prochnow image [UPDATE: We biffed the reference—it's Erwin Leder]:

"Dual Zone climate control my ass!"
