This morning's grisly report of a stabbing at Chrysler's Jefferson North plant has been confirmed by the company, with a source telling local news radio a fight broke out at an assembly line that resulted in a line worker fatally slitting the throat of material hander. The attacker then fled to Belle Isle where he or she apparently committed suicide.
Jefferson North is located in Detroit and is where the brand produces the Jeep Grand Cherokee. It's a massive facility known both for producing SUVS for the Jeep and Dodge and for drug use during lunch breaks over the years.
The reason for the fight is not yet known, but Chrysler sent out this comment:
Chrysler Group is deeply saddened by events that occurred at its Jefferson North Assembly Plant this morning. Two employees were involved in an altercation inside the plant. One employee was stabbed and unfortunately pronounced dead at the scene. The Detroit Police Department is currently investigating. Production has been suspended for this morning and employees are being released.
The plant has been idled this morning as police investigate and the morning shift workers were sent home.
UPDATE 1 (10:57 AM) A new report from The Detroit News supports that the attacker was a male but says nothing about the gender of the person killed at the plant (possibly female). They also add that the man drove his Wrangler to Belle Isle and shot himself.
