Chevrolet loves to paint their Silverado as “America’s Truck.” Commercials are usually littered with patriotic country music, service members hugging their children, baseball games, apple pie, farmers, and, most notably, Chevy trucks driving through America’s heartland. There’s no doubt, General Motors wants to appeal to the blue collar crowd, and, in a lot of ways, they’re are succeeding. The Silverado offers timeless “big rig” looks while offering solid capability. It’s just a good lookin’, hard workin’, comfortable pickup truck.
What’s New About The 2015 Chevrolet Silverado
For 2015, Chevy’s Silverado 1500 remains pretty much the same as the previous model year, save for a couple of small updates. The most significant update for ‘15 is the optional 8-speed automatic transmission that mates up to the optional 6.2-liter V8 mammoth-of-an-engine. Last year, the 6.2-liter was mated to a 6-speed. This new trans bumps max trailer tow up to 12,000 lbs. Also new for ‘15, all trims can now be had with a spray-on bedliner. New exterior color options and some tweaks to the in-car communications system and trailering mirrors, round out the notable updates for the 2015 model year.
The powertrain options are classic Chevy: a pair of small-block V8s and a 4.3-liter 90-degree V6. But with aluminum construction and direct injection, these aren’t exactly your grandpa’s motors. All three options offer plenty of power and torque, with the 6.2-liter being the burliest engine in its class. The V6 and the smaller V8 come mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The monster engine, the 6.2-liter, comes with eight gears to manage its mighty torque.

Fuel Economy Breakdown
Fuel economy for truck owners is pretty important. Trucks nowadays do more than just haul an occasional bail of hay around the farm, they actually serve as daily drivers for thousands of Americans. When it comes to sippin’ fuel, Chevy’s Silverado doesn’t do as well as the competition. Only the 4x2 V6 will score over 20 mpg combined. The rest of the configurations manage combined fuel economy in the teens. Ram and Ford offer better fuel economy options than Chevy.

Chevy offers 6 basic trim levels for the Silverado. For 26 grand, you can get a V6-equipped 2wd WT with manual windows and a bench seat. Or you can go crazy and spend 50 large on a High Country crew cab luxo-truck with leather trim and lots of bells and whistles. Which One We’d Buy
Keeping all the trim levels straight can be a chore, so we’ll just tell you what we’d buy. If it were us, the sweet spot appears to be the double Cab/Standard Box LT 4WD with the optional 5.3-liter V8 engine, trailering package, and navigation for $39,335. For less than 40 grand, you get tons of power and enough towing capability to transport all of your project cars.
